Isvan Hargittai is Professor of Chemistry at the Budapest Technical University and Research Professor at Eotvos University in Budapest.He is a member of the Hungarian Academy os Sciences,foreign member of the Norwegian Academyh of Science and Letters,and medmber of the Academia Europaea.He holds a Ph.D.degree from Eotvos University,a D.Sc.from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences,and is Dr.Honoris Causa of Moscow University.His field of research is structural chemistry,augmented by a broad interest in the applications of the symmetry concept.He has authored and editedc about twenty boos,including Symmetry througn the Eyes of a Chemist(Plenum 1995)and In Our Own Image:Personal Symmewtry in Discofvery(Kluwer/Plenum 2000),both with Magdolan Hargittai.He is the Founder/Editor of The Chemical Intelligencer,a quarterly magazine by Springer New York about the culture of chemistry and related sciences.The Hargittais have two children,Balazs and Eszter.
