内容简介
CLASSIC CHIC is timeless, the interior-design equivalent of the 'little black dress'. Like that item of the wardrobe, such interiors can be dramatised with sophisticated accessories, dressed down by emphasising perfect materials, intrinsic beauty and natural lines, or turned into almost any individualistic look - but however presented, there is a sense of quality and durability, unaffected by fashions, that they all share in common. Classic chic is a class act. So what is it that distinguishes classic chic and how can it be created?
Suzanne Trocme's fascinating exploration of these questions weaves together analyses of the principles and their practical applications. The scene is set with a selection of exemplary interiors - hymns to order, elegance, comfort,
restraint or drama - from some of the world's most artful designers and architects, including Stephen Sills and James Huniford, Sally Sirkin Lewis, Holly Hunt, Andree Putman and Jonathan Reed. Then comes an in-depth discussion of the principles of such designs, in terms of architecture and space, shape, colour and texture. This is followed by a specific look at the elements of classic chic - the shell of an interior furniture, fabric, detail and ornament - and how adjustments are made according to the function of a room. Drawing on inspiration both modern and historical, as well as her own creative
understanding, the author paints a revealing picture of the essence of chic.
Over 300 stunning colour photographs, specially commissioned, and a directory of resources and designers complete Classic Chic - an invaluable read, for hands on designers, armchair enthusiasts and hopeful home-owners alike.
