内容简介
Charlotte Brone''s life story is almost as well-known as the history of her greatest heroine,Jane Eyre. Few writers have had the facts of their lives so inextricably intertwined with the fiction they created. Charlotte Bronte craved literary success from earliest childhood, when together with her sisters Emily and Anne and brother Branwell, she wrote the famous little books about the Brontes'' shared imaginary worlds. She was a celebrated author who won great fame with her semi-autobiographical novels Jane Eyre, Shirley Villette and The Professor; yet the trials of her life, especially the early deaths of her sisters and brother, left her ill-equipped to deal with its demands. Slight of figure, plain of face but for her luminously intelligent eyes, Charlotte Bronte''s character was a mix of shyness, ambition, intransigence and profound romanticism. This highly illustrated book provides a fluent account of the extraordinary life of a much-loved genius of English literature.
